Taro leaves are the edible leaves of the taro plant, scientifically known as Colocasia esculenta. They are widely cultivated in tropical regions and are commonly used in Mauritian, Asian, and African cuisine. In Mauritius, taro leaves are popularly known as Brèdes Songe.

The taro plant grows in moist soil and warm climates. It produces large heart-shaped green leaves with long stems. Both the leaves and corms are valued for food use.

Physical Description

Taro leaves are broad, green, and heart-shaped with smooth surfaces. Mature leaves can grow between 20 and 60 cm in length. They are tender when harvested young and are suitable for cooking.
