What is world environment day and when is it celebrated?

World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated on June 5th each year. Through various public campaigns and events, it is a day for communities and countries around the world to raise awareness about protecting nature and reducing its negative impact on the environment.

The event also encourages the general public to participate in  activities organized for this day. And also to play their role in protecting and protecting the environment.

History:

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) established World Environment Day on the first day of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment in 1972. However, the theme ‘Only one earth’ was first observed in the United States in 1974.

Every year, it is one of the UN’s largest and most important gatherings, with new and important themes. Every year, different countries celebrate and host the event.

Significance:

The theme for World Environment Day was “Only One Earth” to serve as a reminder for people of their roles and duties for the world.

Every year, this day is commemorated to honor what nature has done for us while also highlighting how pollution, environmental degradation, and climate change are on the rise as a result of our actions.
