PRODUCTION OF MORE THAN 180 000 TONNES OF SUGAR
This sugarcane harvest season resulted in more than 180 000 tonnes of sugarcane till now. The Mauritius Chamber of Agriculture revealed this amount and stated that it rounds up to approximately 70% of the sugarcane harvest. The extraction quantity amounts to less than the average expected.
Jacqueline Sauzier, the General Secretary, said: “The climate was not favorable for the past 5 months, with more rainfall which was not beneficial.”
The sugarcane Industry generates 4000 employees per year. Omnicane, Terra and Alteo are the three companies working during the harvest time. The industry managed to harvest a decent amount, however not enough compared to the usual numbers affirmed Jacqueline Sauzier.
