onion Research agenda

The FAREI’s onion research agenda consists of two core research programs: elite germplasm introduction and evaluation, and breeding. High yield, disease tolerance, superior storability, and appealing bulb attributes are all important traits in the selection process.

Bellarose and Francia, two FAREI-developed open-pollinated cultivars, were launched in 2007. Research was done on different onion varieties such as the red varieties , the yellow varieties and hybrid onion varieties. 

Rosada, Rubex and Malbec are red onion varieties . Irati and Chelsea are yellow onion varieties.
