Mauritius’ Agricultural Technology Seminar: Pioneering IoT, AI, and Robotics for a Sustainable Future

Mauritius Agricultural Technology Seminar

Innovating the Agricultural Sector with Emerging Technologies

The Mauritius Agricultural Technology Seminar introduced innovative solutions like IoT, AI, and robotics to modernize the farming industry. Organized by the Mauritius Research and Innovation Council (MRIC), this seminar specifically addressed challenges such as labor shortages and climate change. By showcasing advanced technologies, the seminar aimed to transform agriculture into a more efficient and sustainable sector.

importance of Technological Integration

Nitin Kumar Gopaul, Officer-in-charge of MRIC, emphasized the need for innovators to integrate these advancements into products and services that benefit both society and businesses. Moreover, he stated that focusing on agricultural innovation can significantly boost productivity, helping to tackle urgent environmental issues.

Implementation of Emerging Technologies

The project successfully implemented emerging technologies, such as IoT, AI, and robotics, to combat climate change and automate manual tasks. Additionally, it aimed to attract younger generations to farming by modernizing the industry. The project progressed through three key stages.

  1. Acquisition and Integration of Devices: First, the team acquired and integrated four IoT devices: an automated weather station, an irrigation system, FarmBot, and a drone sprayer. They connected these devices through a unified software platform.

  2. Installation Challenges: The second stage encountered challenges due to bad weather and complex software, but the team successfully installed and calibrated the devices.

  3. Data Integration and Accessibility: Finally, the project focused on extracting data from these devices and integrating it into a single platform. Additionally, a mobile app was developed to improve user accessibility, ensuring easier interaction with the technology.

Public Outreach and Awareness

Furthermore, Neos Core Ltd promoted the initiative through eight months of public awareness sessions targeting farmers, students, and businesses. To showcase the potential of these technologies, the company also established an Agri Tech Park at Mon Desert Alma, attracting significant interest from potential clients. This initiative not only highlights technological advancements but also positions Mauritius as a leader in agricultural innovation.
