Minister Seeruttun praised the SFWF for acknowledging the perseverance of farmers. He also highlighted the series of government measures to support the agro-industry’s resurgence. Moreover, the winter allowance for tea growers increased by 80%, from Rs 2.50 per kg to Rs 4.50 per kg.

To further support farmers and breeders, several grants are now available. These include grants of up to Rs 225,000 for importing cows, goats, pigs, and sheep. In addition, there are grants of Rs 200,000 for constructing and upgrading sheds and purchasing livestock. Calf breeders can also receive Rs 10,000. Furthermore, the Development Bank of Mauritius will extend its Amnesty Scheme to write off long-standing loans of over 20 years up to June 2025. Loans of deceased breeders, farmers, and planters will also be forgiven.
