A symposium on sustainable agriculture and food security

The Ministry of Agro Industry and Food Security, in collaboration with the Economic Development Board (EDB), organized a symposium on sustainable agriculture and food security. Over 125 participants from both public and private sectors participated in the discussions. In addition, they proposed measures to increase local production and reduce the dependency on imported food items. The participants identified various methods to improve the agricultural sector’s visibility, engage young people, and implement new technology. The EDB and the Ministry of Agro Industry and Food Security aim to implement the proposals. The symposium provide an opportunity for stakeholders from the government, private sector, farmers, research institutes, and academics to discuss the challenges that have slowed down growth and the adoption of innovative practices in the agricultural sector. Overall, the symposium brought stakeholders together to discuss challenges and develop strategies to promote sustainable agriculture in Mauritius.
