Green beans (haricot vert) are liked among all people due to their earthy, herbal and solid texture. If you frequently chew on them raw while preparing, buy some more. Green beans (haricot vert) are a food product in the same group as black beans and kidney beans. They are made up of a green pod with just few tiny seeds inside and also both are usually consumed as a single serving. Snap beans or string beans are other names for green beans (haricot vert).

USES:

They are a classic side dish that can be  steamed, sauté, or boiled (add a little butter, garlic and lemon). Their texture also stands up to long cooking in recipes like casseroles and stews. Green beans also improve the soil that they grow in because of their ability to “fix” nitrogen from the air in nodules attached to the bean roots.  The majority of the energy in green beans (haricot vert) is found in the seed.
